Keeping your business number

Change your phone system.
Keep customers connected.

Moving provider should start with the number your customers already know. We check whether it can transfer and plan the changeover before you cancel your existing service.

Can I keep my business phone number?

Often, yes: transferring a number between providers is called number porting. We need to check your number and existing service before confirming that a transfer is possible. A new cloud phone system and a number transfer are related tasks, but they may have different setup dates.

Your business may have more numbers than the one shown on its website. Include direct-dial numbers, numbers for other premises and any ranges on the account when asking for a review.

Keep your existing service active while we plan

Do not cancel a line simply because you have requested a new system. First confirm the transfer date, what will happen to linked services and which services you must cancel separately.

What to prepare for a number-transfer check

Your account information

  • The numbers you want to move.
  • Your current provider and account reference.
  • The business name and service address held on that account.
  • A recent bill showing the relevant numbers.

Details need to match the existing account. We will explain any authorisation or supporting information needed.

Your operational requirements

  • Which numbers belong to each team or location.
  • Any broadband or other service linked to the line.
  • Alarm, lift, fax or payment equipment that may use it.
  • Your preferred date and busiest trading periods.

Check specialist equipment with its supplier before changing the line it uses.

A changeover plan your team understands

1. Check the account

Review portability, account details and the services linked to your number. Discuss your existing contract and any charges with your current provider.

2. Prepare the new system

Agree users, greetings, routing and devices. Confirm the transfer schedule and the plan for calls if the change takes longer than expected.

3. Test the important calls

Check inbound and outbound calling, caller ID, transfers, voicemail and out-of-hours routing. Confirm the agreed service is working before closing out the move.

Switching provider: common questions

How long will my number transfer take?

It depends on the number type, current provider, account information and the scope of the order. We confirm timing after the checks rather than promising the same date for every transfer.

Will there be any downtime?

A planned transfer reduces disruption, but uninterrupted service cannot be promised for every situation. Agree a change window, an escalation contact and suitable fallback arrangements before the day.

Does transferring my number cancel everything with my old provider?

Do not assume it does. Ask which services and contracts end, which remain active and whether linked broadband or other lines could be affected. Retain written confirmation of the agreed changes.

Can I move my number to an app?

A compatible cloud phone setup can let you answer a transferred business number through supported apps. We check number portability and the devices you want to use as part of the proposal.

What will it cost to switch?

Ask for the transfer, setup, equipment and service charges together. Existing contract charges or overlapping bills may also apply. Use our quote comparison checklist and compare the phone packages.
